They say every birth is a little miracle but for Sussex woman Doris Ayling the news that she was pregnant was a little more miraculous than most.
For starters, she’s 99 years old, and therefore a smidge past the menopause. Secondly, the only evidence of anything being up her fanny in the last decade is the cobwebs down there.
Somewhat predictably, the pregnancy letter from Fareham Community Hospital turned out to be an “administrative error”, which was no great surprise to her seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The randy granny, who will turn 100 in November, said: “I was a bit amused by it all.
“I’ve never been to the Portsmouth hospitals and I don’t know where the Fareham hospital is. It’s a complete mystery to me how I got this letter. I had three children when I was 20, 23 and 29. That was enough.”
