It’s with good reason that “colourful” Leeds United owner/non-owner Massimo Cellino got the nickname the “Manager Eater” at the previous clubs he’s controlled – and it’s not because he’s a bit fat.
The “colourful” character has barely been at the club for 10 months yet and has already sacked three managers. And that’s just the beginning. During his 22 years in charge of Italian outfit Cagliari, he disposed of no fewer than 36 managers during 22 years – which is not only ridiculous, but also makes him sound like a Mafia hit man.
But the Italian nutcase decided to turn the tables last month, so instead of “eating managers”, he donned his chef hat and cooked for players and staff at the club’s base. And the reason for this magnanimous gesture? Is Cellino turning over a new leaf? Well no, actually he’s stepped down as chairman after the Football League obtained documents from an Italian court, which had found him guilty of tax evasion.
“No surprises it was pasta but it wasn’t bad,” said manager Neil Redfearn. “His new role might be club chef. It was well cooked and we all gave our opinions of it to him and everyone said they liked it.”
It’s got to be better than the mash and Yorkshire puddings they usually eat in that neck of the woods, although we suspect the players would have preferred it if he’d served up his daughter on a plate instead. For the record, 24-year-old Eleonora Cellino’s hobbies include watching Leeds games and posting saucy photos of herself at Elland Road on Twitter.
