Just like teenagers looking for porn, the Internet has made life a lot easier for con-artists and scammers, largely because the world’s most gullible idiots have all been conveniently herded onto one website: Facebook.
Last month, for example, an Austrian moron fell victim to a £23,000 scam after a Facebook fraudster posed as Prince Harry.
So thanks to Facebook, you don’t even have to pretend to be a Nigerian prince to con people out of money anymore – even an English one will do.
The conman offered the tradesman a “contract” of £835,000, which he said was to renovate the parquet floors in Buckingham Palace.
As part of the deal, the floor fitter was asked to transfer €27,500 to several bank accounts in order to start a British business for the works.
Even the fact the account’s name was simply just “Prince Harry” failed to ring alarm bells, and the money was duly transferred.
Surprise, surprise, the man never heard from the party prince again.
