Anthony Joshua overcomes Emanuele LeoBritish heavyweight contender Anthony Joshua has walked home with his first successful professional fight under his belt.

The Olympic gold medallist began his professional boxing career in impressive style overcoming Emanuele Leo in the first round. His Italian opponent was previously unbeaten with a record of 8-0 although this was his first foray onto foreign turf.

The 6 foot 6 and 17 stone behemoth looked composed as he waited for the pre-fight formalities to pass and towered over his rotund counterpart. When proceedings began Joshua looked to go on the offensive whilst maintaining a measured approach. Feeding off the energy of the crowd, he sought to dispatch Leo who was on the back foot right from the off.
Soon enough it became apparent that his beleaguered opponent was one clean strike away from hitting the deck as he bobbed and weaved to little effect against Joshua constant jabs.

Joshua finished his plump opponent off with a flurry of punches that left Leo stunned on the floor of the O2 arena ring.

Post fight the youngter remained philosophical and wary of the challenge ahead of him.
Joshua:” Every time I step into the ring is as important as an Olympic final, I’ve got to take my career serious but winning the Olympics was priceless experience and this is my pro debut, you only get one debut and we ended it in spectacular fashion”

Joshua has set himself a target of four years to become heavyweight champion of the division and with this promising start for the former amateur boxer, the challenge now is to follow the path of Lennox Lewis rather than Audley Harrison.
