walletFind a penny, pick it up, and all day long you’ll have good luck. Yep, there’s nothing quite like the secret thrill of knowing your day is headed skyward because you happened to notice an abandoned pence piece on the pavement. Victory is undoubtedly yours.

Now imagine finding a cheque for £1.2 million like one underground worker in Spain has. There’s not even a rhyme for that kind of luck. The cheque for $2 million was found in a near empty wallet which had been stuffed between two doors in a Madrid repair depot. All we ever find on the underground is a drunken middle aged man attempting to yodel.

The theory is that thieves stole the cash from the wallet, but left the cheque. Really? If you’re going to do something, do it right. Anyway, the wallet has been handed to Police who are now attempting to track down the owner of all this dosh, who’s thought to be a 49year old Californian man.

The underground workers say ‘We had to count the zeros many times because we just couldn’t believe it. It’s incredible that there are people who have so much money and others so little.’ Food for thought Mr Californian? Think of those who so kindly handed in the cheque…those who so kindly took the time to write a few words about it…

We’ll see you at the nearest repair depot, armed with our lucky pennies, naturally. And if we don’t come up trumps…looks like there’s an unexploited rhyme just looking to be written.
