boxing funnyThe fallout from the postponement of the David Haye v Tyson Fury fight continues.

Former WBA world champion Haye was due to fight Fury on September 28th 2013 but had to postpone the bout after sustaining a cut above his eye whilst sparring. Even though Haye tweeted a picture of the wound complete with six stitches soon after he announced the unfortunate postponement, Fury’s camp suspect foul play.

The team behind Fury are questioning why Haye was sparring so close to a big fight and Chris Farnell, a sports lawyer who represents the 6ft 9″ challenger, believes “it all seems rather convenient” before insisting “there are serious doubts as to whether Haye actually wanted this fight with Tyson or not”.

Now whether a former world heavyweight would go to such lengths to avoid a fight which even if he had lost would have earned him around £5 million is debatable but it’s quite funny to see the reaction of the Fury camp.

Admittedly Haye has a history in this area. In 2011 he blamed a broken toe for his defeat against Wladimir Klitschko while he also postponed a fight scheduled for June 2013 due to a hand injury sustained in training.

Fury has taken to twitter to vent his frustration (and the cynic in us also suggests an to attempt to keep himself in the limelight) and while his tweets don’t exactly live up to Shakespearean English they make interesting reading.

Some of the highlights include:

“Get this clown of a fighter back in the ring with Tyson Fury”

Why do Boxers always have to talk about themselves in the third person!?

“Delay or pussy job he can never beat me got his no just like I know what you just done sh*t house. Get me a real man to fight”

Part anger, part abuse, part just random words put together. Fury must have been really livid here.

“Sorry for every1 who bought tickets & hotels. Haye excuses r boring. He dont want to fight me!”

Fury speaks out on behalf of his apparently very rich following who can afford to purchase entire hotels when coming to watch his fights before describing Haye’s excuse as “boring”.

Come on Haye you could have thought up a more believable story of how you cut your head other than boxing. It’s not like you are a professional boxer or anything!

It will be interesting to keep an eye out on how this situation develops and whether the two do eventually end up in the ring together.
