It’s hard to come up with an original theme when you’re opening a new café so Indonesian entrepreneur Henry Mulyana thought he’d struck gold when he came up with his latest venture.
Sadly, although its unique selling point proved popular initially, Mulyana’s “Nazi-themed” café – complete with swastikas, large pictures of Adolf Hitler and staff wearing Nazi uniforms – was soon hit by scandal thanks to outraged locals and foreigners.
“Those symbols are internationally recognised to represent violence and racism,” said Ayi Vivananda, the deputy mayor of Bandung, who called the owner to a meeting to explain himself.
Mulyana denied being pro-Nazi or supporting Hitler and said he wanted to decorate his restaurant – called the Soldatenkaffee (Soldier Cafe) – with Nazi symbols to attract customers, both local and foreigners.
“I’m just a businessman, not a politician,” he said.
We get the feeling Mulyana will be “heil-ing” the next taxi out of town.
We know another Grump that’s trying to take over the world
