It was a busy day for Michael Di Marzo, after spending the day running errands in his hometown of Olympia, Washington and being tracked by police helicopter when they had mistaken his umbrella for an AK-47 assault rifle. The police had received a report early in the day from a teenager claiming a man wearing a ski mask and carrying a rifle was walking around in the area, which led to a massive air and ground search to find him. The ski mask turned out to be the combination of a turtleneck top and a black baseball cap.
Mr Di Marzo had no idea that there was a manhunt for him and that three schools were locked down as a result. In fact, after noticing the helicopter had been following him, he even waved his umbrella at the pilot to say hello! The misunderstanding was eventually cleared up when Michael Di Marzo returned home that day and received a call from the police. A spokesperson for the Olympia Police Station revealed that four different departments had responded to the firearms report and tracked Michael Di Marzo as part of the manhunt.
