Last month Ikea’s squeaky clean Scandinavian reputation took somewhat of a hit as it was dragged kicking and screaming into what can now surely be referred to as Horse-gate, the worrying albeit hilarious scandal that just won’t leave us alone. The delicious traditional Swedish meatballs we have all been devouring for years contained the dreaded ‘traces of horse DNA’ and have thus been removed from the menu. The big winner in all of this has surely been McDonalds which now appears as a beacon of respectable food standards among all the deceit, lies and horse.
If Ikea’s reputation had taken a knock after the devastating meatball revelations then the news that their almond cake has had to be pulled from 23 countries due to the discovery of fecal matter may end their culinary credibility altogether. Yes it’s all well and good buying some stools for your house but do you really want them in your almond cake? It was the ever-impeccable Chinese food standards that made the shocking discovery, seizing and destroying a batch of 1,800 cakes with the bacteria Coliform aka poo. So BBM would like to dish out a bit of advice, next time you go shopping in Ikea eat before you leave..
