football refWhat has got to happen for the football bigwigs to actually do something about these outrageous refereeing decisions that we are seeing these days? With the amount of money being banded about in the game at the minute, you would think that goal line technology for instance is a no brainer, especially when decisions like the ones made this weekend are changing the outcome of matches completely!
The drama unfolded on this weekends Super Sunday games, firstly between Everton and Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, and later on in the game between Chelsea and Man United at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool and Everton, locked at two all going into injury time after goals from Osman and Naismith had cancelled out early goals from Liverpool, were both ready to call it a draw when Luis Suarez stuck out a leg to sneak home what looked likely to be a winner for the Reds. However the referee and linesman thought otherwise and disallowed the goal for offside. This was an outrageous decision and one that Liverpool were left seething about as the whistle blew.

A couple of hours later, another brilliant, end-to-end game also locked in at 2-2 with 30 minutes remaining, became a mockery as the referee sent off two Chelsea players, ruining the game as a contest, and one in which United went on to win 3-2. Fernando Torres was sent off for diving, but looking back, the replays show that Tom Daley hardly needs to worry, as diving was the last thing on the players mind. This, along with an Ivanovic red, meant Chelsea had a mountain to climb and the game was ruined. After the final whistle, allegations have been made that the referee Mark Clattenburg used racially aggravated abuse towards Chelsea players.
Yet again, the bad side of football rears its ugly head, and the headlines are not the ones in which we want to be discussing.

In other games this weekend, Arsenal sneaked a late winner against QPR, Reading still look for their first win this season after a dramatic 3-3 draw against Fulham, and Man City again won without really hitting top gear. Newcastle’s Papis Cisse scored a 94th minute winner against an unlucky West Brom, and Spurs held onto 4th place with a good away win at Southampton.
