It must be tough for Brendan Rodgers trying to understand all those foreign accents in the Liverpool dressing room.
But who’s got the worst? Pepe, maybe? Lucas? That Italian guy who’s shit?
Well according to the American producers of “Being: Liverpool”, a documentary about the once-great, now-wank football club, only one player is so indecipherable that he deserves subtitles – Jamie Carragher.
Carragher was interviewed with his son at the club’s training ground and producers decided to put in the subtitles due to the strength of his Scouse accent despite not using them for any other players.
A source from America said: “I couldn’t believe it when Carra was interviewed and they had subtitles. Not a single other player – even Steven Gerrard, Pepe or Lucas – has needed subtitles, just Carra.
“He does have a strong accent but some of the other lads have strong accents too.” A spokesperson for Channel 5 said they had no intention of removing the subtitles for the British audience. “The subtitles will be left in because we broadcast the show in the same format as in the US.”
But the Anfield laughter doesn’t stop there. Apparently Rodgers has been labelled as ‘cringeworthy’ and ‘the new David Brent’ for his sound bites on the show.
In one clip Rodgers reveals three envelopes, which he says contains the names of players who will let the club down this season. “I think there’s three players who will let us down this year – the cause, the fight, everything. And I have written them down already,” he says.
“Now my point to you as players – and staff – is make sure you are not the one in the envelope, because you are so important … I think there’s three, maximum, who will let us down. Make sure you’re not the one.”
Brilliant. Unlike Andy Carroll, at least fans are getting their money’s worth with this bright idea.
