Some animals just don’t know when to shut up, as Eddie Murphy experienced in that film, the one where he goes to Beverly Hills? Or the one where he talks to animals? I don’t know, but either way one animal can land you in court, something I doubt many people would like to experience.
A woman in Warwick, Rhode Island has been taken to court because she trained her cockatoo to swear at any intrusive neighbours, which is very impressive rather than a crime. The woman, Lynne Taylor, had trained her pet to swear particularly at her neighbours Kathleen Melker and Craig Fontaine, with Fontaine also coincidentally happening to be her ex-husband. There’s no motive there right?
The two women have been in a dispute said to have lasted for a year, and Taylor even apparently threatened to drown Melker’s cat (ouch!). But believe it or not, that WASN’T the reason she went to court, but for her swearing cockatoo.
So the justice system works by not acting on a death threat (again, on an animal) but because a bird can swear. Come on, it should belong in a circus not a jail cell.
