UFC Returns to Perth for Fight Night This September

The UFC has confirmed it will return to Perth with a Fight Night event scheduled for Sunday, September 28, at RAC Arena. The announcement follows Perth’s rise in the MMA world as the hometown of Australia’s latest UFC champion, Jack Della Maddalena, who recently claimed the welterweight title by defeating Belal Muhammad.

Fight details for the September card are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks. One of the headline bouts is anticipated to feature Della Maddalena facing off against former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. Makhachev vacated his 155-pound title with the intention of taking on the Australian champion later this year.

As Makhachev targets a return to the octagon in either October or November, the timeline suggests that if Della Maddalena defeats him, he would likely be defending his welterweight belt for a second time in early 2025—potentially at a UFC pay-per-view event back in Perth.

It’s hard to believe, but Saturday’s UFC return to Madison Square Garden will mark the eighth time the Octagon has been set up inside the “The World’s Most Famous Arena.”

From the thrilling debut in 2016 capped by Conor McGregor’s lightweight title win to Alex Pereira turning MSG into his personal stomping grounds each of the last three years, these annual trips to New York City have always been electric and this year’s visit shouldn’t be any different.

Headlined by an historic heavyweight title clash between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic and boasting a strong undercard from top to bottom, Saturday’s pay-per-view promises to be captivating from the outset. UFC NEWS

UFC 308: TOPURIA VS HOLLOWAY plus Australia’s Rob Whittaker taking on undefeated Khamzat Chimaev

UFC NEWS

Main Event: Ilia Topuria defeats Max Holloway by knockout at 1:34 of the third round

Featherweight champion Ilia Topuria made another statement in his first title defense Saturday in Abu Dhabi, as he knocked out former champ Max Holloway in the third round of the UFC 308 main event.

Topuria won the title by knocking out Alexander Volkanovski in February, and today, he added another all-time great to his perfect resume.

As promised, both fighters called for a slugfest as the bout began, but then the fight started at long range, Holloway busy as Topuria pressured, then took the challenger down twice. Upon rising, Topuria landed a hard right hand and started mixing kicks in. Holloway kept firing, though, landing more and more as the round progressed.

Topuria’s power shots began to find their mark with more frequency in round two, and while they got Holloway’s attention, he didn’t stray from his gameplan or lower his work rate, as he continued to outwork the champion.

n the second minute of round three, a right hand hurt Holloway, and Topuria unleashed his arsenal on the Hawaiian. Holloway initially weathered the storm, but then a left hand sent him hard to the canvas, with referee Marc Goddard halting the fight moments later at 1:34 of the third frame.

With the win, Topuria moves to 16-0. Holloway falls to 26-8.

Co-Main Event: Khamzat Chimaev defeats Robert Whittaker via submission (face crank) at 3:34 of round one

Khamzat Chimaev’s first fight in a year was a spectacular one, as he submitted former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in less than four minutes.

ot surprisingly, Chimaev shot in for a takedown early, and then worked to take Whittaker’s back on the mat. Whittaker briefly scrambled out of trouble, but Chimaev was right back on him, and after working for a bit, he suddenly locked up a face crank that forced a tap out at 3:34 of the opening round.

With the win, the No. 13-ranked Chimaev moves to 14-0. The No. 3-ranked Whittaker falls to 27-8.

Rob Whittaker looking to finish Khamzat Chimaev

Speaking with The Sporting News, Whittaker outlined how he sees the fight playing out. While suggesting that Chimaev will get tired if he tried to take him down, ‘The Reaper’ said: “I believe I have the advantage in the standup world and if he’s gonna try and force that story of taking me down, he’ll get more tired.”

Furthermore, Whittaker spoke about how he will look to get a finish. He said: “I’ve got 25 minutes to look for a finish and that’s what I’m gonna try and do.”

It is worth noting that Chimaev hasn’t been in action since last year following his victory over Kamaru Usman. Despite being undefeated so far, ‘Borz’ has had close matchups against Gilbert Burns and Usman that displayed the gaps that could be exploited in potentially securing a victory over him.

With the middleweight fight having major title implications on the line, fans can expect to witness a great showdown between two elite fighters. That said, it remains to be seen as to who comes out on top when they finally lock horns inside the Octagon in Abu Dhabi at UFC 308.

The UFC will return to Australian shores in 2025

UFC NEWS – The UFC will return to Australian shores in 2025 with Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena announced to host UFC 312 on Sunday 9 February next year.

The octagon has been a smash hit in Australia in recent times with UFC 305 staged in Perth earlier this year, while Sydney held UFC 293 in September last year which was a huge success with the card headlined by Sean Strickland claiming the Middleweight championship from Israel Adesanya.

UFC 308: TOPURIA VS HOLLOWAY plus Australia’s Rob Whittaker taking on undefeated Khamzat Chimaev | SUN 27 OCT 5AM AEDT – Watch UFC Live

Number one UFC featherweight and former champion Alexander Volkanovski declared at the announcement that he is heavily targeting UFC 312 to fight in front of his adoring, home fans.

“I’m going to do whatever it takes to make sure I am on that card,” the Australian said. “I’ll be entertaining in Sydney in February, 100%. Whether it’s fighting for the title, interim, lightweight title, I don’t care what it is. If for some reason I can’t get a fight, I’ll entertain on the DJ decks or something. I’ll find a way to do it.

Bakhram Murtazaliev VS Tim Tszyu

Bakhram Murtazaliev vs Tim Tszyu official for October 19 on Prime Video - Bad Left Hook

Bakhram Murtazaliev has laughed off claims made by Tim Tszyu that he’s a “step aside fighter” calling the Australian an “idiot” if he believes that.

Tszyu poked the IBF champion before Sunday’s bout at the Caribe Royale Resot in Orlando, making light of the fact the Russian had taken cheques from promoters to allow more lucrative bouts to take place.

When Jermell Charlo was the former unified champion of the division, the Russian was the No.1 contender for years and a mandatory to fight the American. – Watch Here
