London, UK – On Sunday, July 16, UFC® will return to Glasgow for the first time since 2015, as No. 9 ranked welterweight Gunnar “Gunni” Nelson  takes on No. 13 ranked Santiago “Gentle Boa” Ponzinibbio, inside The SSE Hydro.
Tickets to UFC FIGHT NIGHT®:  NELSON VS. PONZINIBBIO go on sale to the general public on Friday, June 2 at 10:00 a.m. BST via Ticketmaster.
Adopted Irishman Nelson (16-2-1; fighting out of Reykjavik, Iceland), who trains in Dublin alongside “The Notorious” Conor McGregor, heads into the main event bout on the back of three successive victories, the most recent of which came in London in March this year, where he defeated American Alan Jouban. The slick submission win earned the Icelandic fighter a Performance of the Night bonus, in what was the co-main event of the evening. Nelson will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce onJuly 16, as he prepares to firmly position himself as a future contender to the 170lbs title.
Standing in his way is exciting Argentinean prospect Ponzinibbio, (24-3; fighting out of Florida, USA), who comes into the fight off the back of four successive victories inside the Octagon®. Arguably one of the most consistent performers in the UFC’s welterweight division, Ponzinibbio has made no secret of his desire to move through the rankings and take on the very best at 170lbs.
Elsewhere on the card, three Scottish athletes are set to compete on home soil. No.7 ranked women’s strawweight Joanne “Jojo” Calderwood  will take on No. 14 ranked Cynthia Calvillo in the co-main event of the evening. A decorated Muay Thai talent, Calderwood is known for her power and ferocity on the feet. Calvillo, conversely, has won both of her UFC fights via submission, making this an unmissable match up of striker vs. grappler.
Calderwood is joined on the fight card by fellow Scots Stevie “Braveheart” Ray , who meets American veteran Paul Felder, and Paul “Bearjew” Craig , who takes on Khalil Rountree. Welshman Jack “Hammer” Marshman, meanwhile, will look to rally the support of Welsh fans who make the short journey to Glasgow, as he takes on Canadian Ryan Janes .
Also added to the UFC FIGHT NIGHT®:  NELSON VS. PONZINIBBIO line up today is a thrilling women’s bantamweight bout featuring Sweden’s Lina Lansberg, who will face perhaps her toughest challenge to date, as she meets American Leslie Smith. The pair are the only two women to have taken on Cris Cyborg inside the Octagon, one of the most powerful females ever to compete in the UFC.
