Last night’s England v Wales match gave us some of the most exciting moments of the 2015 Rugby World Cup yet. England fans across the world were on the edges of their seats as Wales fought tooth and nail to achieve an impressive comeback against their fellow British rivals at Twickenham.
Within the first few minutes of the game Wales were awarded a penalty, ably taken by Dan Biggar, which put them 3 – 0 ahead. Not too long after this England were given a penalty themselves Owen Farrell managed to bring the score to an equal 3 – 3.
By the 30th minute of the game England had managed to edge out a comfortable lead of 16 – 6 following a try and conversion from Owen Farrell. Even though this did slip to 16 – 9 by half-time, nobody was quite prepared for the excitement and upset that would occur in the dramatic second half.
The second half began with Farrell scoring another penalty to put England comfortably ahead by ten points again. The home side managed to maintain this lead until a couple of penalties from Biggar brought the score to 22 – 18 by the 53rd minute. England managed another penalty, bringing their lead up to seven points but then a try from Gareth Davies and a conversion from Dan Biggar brought the score dead even by the 72nd minute.
Pundits and celebratory spectators took to Twitter to express their anxiety as Wales were awarded a penalty towards the final minutes of the match, a penalty that Biggar managed to score and bring Wales into a last minute lead. After a penalty call in the last couple of minutes of the game, England opted to go for a corner to win the game. Wales showed true defensive grit and determination here and managed to fend off England until the final whistle was blown, however.
A thrilling emotional rollercoaster of a match with a great performance by Dan Biggar in particular ensures that this will surely be one of the most memorable matches of the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
