Summer festivals are all about the emotions and love of the events. We all remember them and cherish memories that we will never forget; but a crying baby is always a buzz kill for people and in Japan there’s a whole festival dedicated to crying baby competitions!
A bunch of sumos in Japan every year for 400 years hold the Naki Sumo baby crying festival, where the main attraction is a sumo scaring a baby to win a competition. The crying is said to improve the good health of babies and wards away the evil spirits. So big trouble in little china was a non-fiction film after all?
The festival also has a referee judging the babies on their crying; so you get a lot of Gary Oldman types giving it their best for the camera!
