Game of Thrones is one of the most popular fantasy shows ever to hit the screens but has managed to cause controversy with a choice of background prop.
In an emotional scene showing some traitors heads on spikes, just next to one of the shows characters is the head of ex- American president Dubya complete with shaggy period wig.
The faux pas had gone mainly unnoticed until the Season 1 DVD release when the show creators David Benioff and DB Weiss pointed out the likeness of the manakin head in the episode commentary.
They maintain that the use of the head was not a political statement, but simply put up because it was what they had lying around.
A statement letter read: ‘We use a lot of prosthetic body parts on the show: heads, arms, etc. We can’t afford to have these all made from scratch, especially in scenes where we need a lot of them, so we rent them in bulk.’
They apologised if any offence or disrespect was caused to the former Head of the States, who had earlier this month been voted as the most unpopular living former US President.
It does beg the question as to why they put the head at the forefront right in shot instead of towards the back where it would be unrecognisable and then mentioned it in the DVD as a talking point.
Bosses at HBO have also called the stunt ‘unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste’.
Some fans on the other hand, think it has made the show a whole lot better!
