Split Decision Costs UFC Fighter

 
The world of UFC took another tentative step towards the inclusion of Mortal Kombat-style finishing moves when a woman’s bout was cut short because one of the fighters had her ear ripped in half.
Leslie Smith’s cauliflower ear was already looking a bit worse for wear when her opponent, Jessica Eye, clocked her round the lughole again in the second round. Smith’s ear appeared to split open near the top, separating into two distinct — and somewhat nauseating — flaps of skin. With blood flying from the open wound and the ear looking as if it was hanging off Smith’s head, officials recommended a stoppage and called time.
A pissed-off Smith pleaded for the fight to continue, but her appeals fell on deaf ears… so to speak.
