An event at the Skiing World Cup in Wengen, Switzerland, has been cancelled due to too much snow. Is it just us, or is that the most piss-poor excuse for an event that relies exclusively on snow? It’s the British Rail excuse of excuses. It’s not East Fife v Dumbarton on a Tuesday night, it’s the Ski World Cup ffs! Surely the prospect of snow is a winner. Had the forecast been for drizzle we could understand their problem. No one has ever won anything in drizzle, not even Dumbarton.
But apparently, The Lauberhorn, the most famous downhill ski race in the world, in which competitors can reach speeds of 100mph, cannot go ahead.
Can’t they grit it? Or get someone’s dad to go out really early with a ‘scraper’ and clear it so he can boast just how early he ‘cleared his’ to his neighbours later? No? Well maybe Britain isn’t the only country in the world to come to a standstill after a few flurries after all.
