BBM’s knowledge of American sports is generally limited to Googling cheerleaders, but even we sit up and take notice when it’s Superbowl time. We can almost hear the roar of the crowd and the commentators now… “It’s the fourth down and metres, the quarterback has hailed Mary and … touchgoal to the Red Sox!” Sporting drama at its best.
And this year’s match between the Atlanta Falcons and the New England Patriots is set to have a little extra spice because of Roger Goodell.
“Who he?” you may well ask. Well Goodell is the NFL Commissioner who fought hard to hand Patriots QB Tom Brady a four-game ban in the wake of the Deflategate controversy last year.
And as the Patriots cruised to a 36-17 victory over the Steelers to book their place in the Superbowl, fans began to taunt him with chants of “Ro-ger! Ro-ger!” and “Where is Roger?”, as well as a couple of banners.
Goodell sneakily avoided that game, but he will almost certainly be forced to hand the Vince Lombardi Trophy to Brady should the Patriots win the whole shebang in Houston. Brace for a tsunami of “that face when” memes if that happens.
