The Australian Open is just around the corner, and with Andy Murray having finally won something, we can’t write our usual xenophobic diatribe about how the shit Scot is going to let us down again. Bah.
Luckily, tennis’s other lovable loser Caroline Wozniacki has filled the void. The slightly disturbed golf-star shagging hotty, who still hasn’t won a grand slam, sparked a racism storm in an exhibition match after shoving a towel down her top and up her skirt for an impression of Serena Williams.
Although everyone at the match laughed and took it in the good humour it was intended, the PC police were out in force online.
On Tumblr, one blogger wrote: “This isn’t “harmless fun” as one article described it. its racist. out and outright racism. mocking and making fun of the bodies of black women for a laugh? real funny, stupid white girl. real real funny.’
Another blogger wrote: “It may have been done in “jest,” but I love how people can can turn a black woman’s body and sexuality into a caricature. However, we should not have the autonomy to celebrate any successes of our own.”
Of course, all this ignores the fact that women of all races have big/small tits, and big/small asses – and also the fact that she’s done it before, but why let the facts get in the way of a good controversy. Williams also couldn’t give a shit, and frequently takes the piss out of her own body shape. Before the match, she even tweeted: “Hummmmm do they make Brazilian bikinis for ummm well….. Me???”.
We certainly hope they do Serena, if only because we’d like to see Wozniacki wear one for her next impression.
