Jack Wilshere Pledges Life to Arsenal - But Do They Want It?Jack Wilshere has today stated that he will be an Arsenal player for life.

He has proved, in this one statement, the naivety held not just by him but by many footballers.

Wilshere is 19, and has fifteen years left in what could be a glittering career. He is unquestionably England’s brightest prospect for many a year and is a pivotal figure in Arsenal’s midfield.

Even though Mario Balotelli claimed he didn’t know who Wilshere was in the not-so-distant past, he is recognised around the globe as a world-class player who has matured beyond his years on the field.

Off the field, he has shown himself somewhat foolish. Having been accused of actions that do nothing for his public persona, Wilshere’s statement is inadvertently a knife to the heart of all Arsenal supporters.

Having seen Fabregas and Nasri leave after failing to bring in trophies can fans really expect a player of Wilshere’s stature to remain at a club that looks no closer to winning trophies this year?

I hope he proves me wrong but footballers and integrity are two words that are used less and less frequently in the same sentence these days.

A bold statement from such a young man. Can he be a man and stick by it? Only time will tell.
