DIEGO ‘scourge of Liverpool’ Forlan was named the winner of the Golden Ball as the best player of the World Cup, presumably pipping Emile Heskey into second place.
The Atletico Madrid striker (pictured right) scored five goals and was generally bloody awesome as he and Luis Suarez somehow dragged an otherwise Uruguay average side to the semi-finals.
German Thomas Mueller, who also scored five, was named as the best young player of the tournament and took home the Golden Boot. His three assists acted as a tie-breaker following a fourway finish at the top with Wesley Sniejder, David Villa and Forlan.
“This is just incredible for a newcomer to the World Cup,” Mueller tsaid.
“It’s an honour of course, but at the end of the day, I’d rather have had the World Cup itself.”
Bloody Germans, never happy.
