As a general rule of thumb, the female fighters of the UFC world aren’t your traditional beauties – not unless you like women with black eyes and busted lips, in which case you seriously need to turn yourself in to the police as soon as possible. They’ll give you the help you need.
But it seems UFC has found its Maria Sharapova – if Sharapova was a relentless machine with thighs that could crush you to death (which actually sounds like a pretty good way to go).
Step forward Paige VanZant, who has taken the rather unusual career route of cheerleader to cage fighter and has just won four of her five bouts so far.
VanZant says she was injured far more often while on the cheer team than she has been as a fighter. Even more unbelievable, the statistics back her up. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, cheerleading accounts for 65% of all catastrophic injuries to girls in high school sports and 71% of all catastrophic injuries to women in collegiate sports.
