Charles and Eddie… Robson and Jerome… Jedward… The list of great musical double acts that have enriched our lives with their superb songwriting talents runs on and on.
But by far the best of the bunch, better even than those two from Steps who tried it as a duo, are Chas and Dave.
When the Cockney songsters aren’t “dahn the pab” tinkling the ivories with classic singles like ‘Gertcha’, ‘Rabbit’ and ‘Snooker Loopy’, they’re famously cheering on their beloved Spurs at White Hart Lane.
And now, in a move so Cockney you could dress it up as a Pearly Queen and feed it jellied eels on a day trip to Margate, the London double act have written a song begging ‘Arry Redknapp to stay at the club.
Redknapp remains red-hot favourite to become the next permanent England boss following the resignation of Fabio Capello, but Spurs fans are terrified of losing the manager who took them from the Premier League shit heap to the Champions League using little more than the vast bank account of chairman Daniel Levy.
And Chas ‘n’ Dave hope their song ‘Harry don’t go’ will help persuade the wheeler-dealer boss to turn his back on his country.
We’ve not yet had a chance to hear their Redknapp song, but it reportedly consists mainly of the duo repeating the words “Harry don’t go, Harry don’t go, Harry, Harry, Harry don’t go”.
Only time will tell how long it stays at No.1, but Redknapp would have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by such heartfelt lyrics.
