A weekend of top flight Football is on offer this weekend, with a cup final and massive derby game on show. Kicking off on Saturday are title-chasing money bags Manchester City taking on relegation sufferers Blackburn at the Etihad Stadium, with team-full-of-affairs neighbours Manchester United travelling to Norwich a few hours beforehand to keep the pressure on the leaders Manchester City. Chelsea take on Bolton for the fight for fourth place, whilst Newcastle play host to manager free Wolves who are looking to bounce back from their 5-1 derby defeat to West Bromwich Albion last week.
But we couldn’t end the fixtures on that right? Well on the Sunday, Struggling Arsenal play host at the Emirates to North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are looking to show that they have truly taken over as North London’s best team by defeating the Gunners and carry on the fight for the title. Whereas for Arsenal, they are just playing for wages as their seven years without a trophy looks to carry on after their defeat to Sunderland in the FA Cup and thrashing in the first leg of their Champions League encounter with AC Milan.
And to round it up on Sunday, Liverpool take on Cardiff at Wembley for the League Cup Final, a better name than before the Worthington Cup. Liverpool are looking to claim their first trophy since Dalglish took over in his 2nd reign as King Kenny, but High-Flying Championship promotion hotshots Cardiff City will not make this an easy contest, as we have seen after Arsenal’s debacle against Birmingham City in last years final.
So with a massive derby, cup final and goals promised this weekend, your couch or the local pub seems the best destination for you this weekend.
