BBM doesn’t know too much about the Muslim faith beyond the fact that it’s much safer to make jokes about Christians instead. In other words, we realise that some of the more “extreme” believers might not take BBM’s good-natured joshing in the light-hearted manner it’s intended. Plus it’s easier for us to make degrading, misogynistic jokes about women.
So we were a little surprised to learn some fool thought it’d be a good idea to hold a nudist sports festival in Muslim-majority Malaysia. BBM is all up for women getting their fun bags out (see misogyny reference earlier), but even we could see it ending in disaster – if only because of how they do the pole vault.
A video of the May gathering, called the “Nude Sport Games 2014”, first appeared on social media in August.
It showed naked participants engaged in a range of activities including body painting, dancing, relay races and various other contests on a secluded Penang beach.
Athletes baring up after arrest, the co-organiser Albert Yam, who was arrested with seven others, has publicly apologised for the “naturist event” saying he was deeply sorry and that people shouldn’t judge him as it was very cold that day.
