brendan-rodgers 2233370bBrendan Rodgers was sweating more than Sam Allardyce watching his side try to play a continental passing game this month, following an uncomfortable confrontation with a fan.

Rodgers was made to squirm as he was probed about finances, Luis Suarez and Jamie Carragher’s retirement – by a primary school student called Finn.

The interview was arranged by the club as part of its “Kop Kids” series, but it proved tougher than ruffled Rodgers expected and he was forced to give a series of diplomatic non-answers.

In true journalistic shark-style, the nine-year-old softened him up with an easy one to start with – is being Liverpool manager the best job ever?

“Yes, it’s a brilliant job,” smiled Rodgers. “I’m very lucky to manage the club and work with great players and obviously speak with lots of great supporters.”

That’s when baby-faced Finn turned into a snarling mini-Paxman. Questions like ‘who is your favourite player in the squad?’ and ‘who’s the naughtiest player at Liverpool?’ proved particularly tricky – the answers being “I have to love them all” and a very curt “Luis Suarez.”

Rodgers was also, surprisingly, baffled by the question: “How would you spend £5?” He didn’t seem to have an answer, despite much deliberation. In the end, he copped out by saying: “I’d save it, knowing me.”

Interesting stuff from a man who has splashed out millions on transfers in recent months, including a fair few quid on Joe Allen. God knows what would have happened if Finn had probed him about his son’s sexual assault allegations, or what he thought of Kenny Dalglish spending half-a-billion, trillion pounds on Andy Carroll. By the sound of it, even “what’s your favourite colour?” would have been a stumper.
