As BBM’s good buddies Richard Keys and Andy Gray will tell you, women and football can be an embarrassing combination.
Where Keys and Gray went wrong, unfortunately, is that they seem to think that all women in football are a joke – unless, of course, you’re “hanging out the back” of one. At least Sepp Blatter simply limits his misogynistic views to things like suggesting female footballers should wear tighter shorts.
And while we’re not suggesting there’s anything wrong with the women’s game (except maybe the standard of goalkeeping – seriously, what’s that about?), there can be no denying that one group of ladies aren’t exactly helping the cause when it comes to promoting the beautiful game for our bra-wearing brethren. We’re talking, of course, about WAGS.
And for exhibit A, we need look no further than Samir Nasri’s lady friend, Anara Atanes, who wasn’t exactly happy that her beau was dumped from France’s World Cup team by manager Didier Deschamps.“F*** france and f*** Deschamps! What a s*** manager!” she tweeted after the French team was announced.
And to reiterate her point further, the British model then tweeted: “Incase u didnt read my tweet properly…. Ill repeat myself….. f*** FRANCE!!!!! And f*** Deschamps!”A model with a filthy mouth – sounds like she’s a keeper.
Nasri joined in on the social media act later in the evening, posting a more polite: “Thank you for all your messages of support, that’s life, another world cup at home to realize what does not kill makes you stronger.”
And he even replied to his girlfriend: “Love you dont get upset life sometimes is unfair but you have to accept it and deal with it.”
Somehow we don’t think the rational approach is going to have much effect with her.
